When you think about smartphones, most manufacturers, clearly driven by customer demand, seem to believe that the bigger the better. In the tablet sector, it is not that obvious and the preferred size depends on what you need the tablet for. A 7-inch device is portable but some tasks may be off limits. A 10-inch tablet can offer more usage options but you would not be able to hide it in your back pocket for sure. And here is where 8-inch slates enter, for example Lenovo’s latest offering, the Miix 2. The device is expected to be released later this month starting at $299 for a 32 GB model. The 64 GB version will cost $349.
8.1-inch Lenovo Miix2 Windows 8.1 Tablet
The Lenovo Miix 2 features 8.1-inch 10-point multi-touch display with a 800 x 1,280 resolution and 178-degree viewing angle. The tablet may be on the smaller side, but with an Intel Bay Trail-T quad-core processor and Intel HD graphics certainly is not lacking in the performance department.
Initially, the Miix 2 will be available in two storage options with 32 GB or 64 GB of onboard memory, both capable of adding 32 GB of storage extra via microSD slot. Lenovo is also planning to release a 128 GB version some time later.
Like most tablets, the Miix 2 sports a 5-megapixel rear camera and a 2-megapixel front-facing webcam. The tablet runs Microsoft’s updated Windows 8.1 operating system and comes pre-loaded with Microsoft Office Home & Student 2013. If you have some more money to spare, you can treat yourself to a stylus and a back cover for additional $20.
