Virgin Mobile announced a new Android-powered smartphone today, the Kyocera Event. This is a very affordable device, so you should not expect any out-of-this-world specs and features, but it certainly is an interesting choice if you are planning to make the transition from a feature phone to a smartphone and begin your adventure with Android. The black version of Event launches today at Virgin Mobile USA for $79.99. The red model will be sold exclusively by RadioShack starting March 3, and neither will require a contract.
Kyocera Event for Virgin Mobile – Overview
The Kyocera Event for Virgin Mobile prepaid service features a 3.5-inch 320 x 480 IPS touch screen, a 3.2 megapixel rear camera with LED flash and video camcorder and 512 MB of RAM. Powered by a 1 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon procesor, the phone offers 4 GB of on-board storage and microSD card slot compatible with up to 32 GB memory cards. The Event runs Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich which allows access to Google Mobile Services such as Google Play Store where users can download thousands of free Android apps including games, productivity tools, travel assistance and rewards programs, Google Maps, Google Navigation and more.
Thanks to MagniFont, which is extra-extra-large font size, the phone is easy to operate even for people who do not see very well. This makes the Event a perfect handset for older folks who want to be up to date with their phone. The Kyocera Event also comes with Virgin Mobile ID packs, an eco mode for energy savings, Swype text input, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and GPS.
