Kyocera debuts DuraForce Pro that could be the cheapest smartphone offering wide-angle action camera
Kyocera has just announced another rugged smartphone. Called DuraForce Pro, the new phone is a 5-inch Android phone, that just as previous members of the line, offers a solid body construction that is water, drops and dust resistant. However, interestingly enough, the handset is simultaneously the cheapest phone on the market to offer low price and a wide angle view action camera capable to shoot Full HD videos.
Kyocera announced the DuraForce Pro that except for a traditional rugged body offers a wide-angle action camera and Android Marshmallow for a very competitive price.
To start from optics which are undoubtedly the phone’s biggest selling point, the Kyocera DuraForce Pro debuts equipped in a quite traditional combination of a 13MP primary camera and a 5MP selfie snapper on the front. However, the said tandem comes accompanied by an additional 135-degree action camera that can shoot 1080p photos. The Super Wide View sensor packs its own image processor providing its potential users with slow-motion, sport, action and underwater modes. However, since 4K video quality is not included, the DuraForce Pro is still far from the best action cameras available on the market like the GoPro Hero 4.
Speaking of the external design, the new Kyocera’s offering comes closed in an IP68-certified body case, which means that it can survive being buried in 2 meter deep water for about 30 minutes. In addition, thanks to Military Standard 810G certification it’s also protected against variety of hostile conditions it may meet on its way like extreme temperatures, solar radiation, humidity, freezing, vibration and shock which are subject to a 2-year manufacturer’s warranty.
But, the new Kyocera DuraForce Pro isn’t just about a ruggedized body and wide-angle action camera. We shouldn’t ignore the fact that it is also a decent mid-ranger. Running Android 6.0 Marshmallow out of box the phone is driven by a Snapdragon 617 processor with built-in 4G LTE modem coupled with 2GB RAM and 32GB of internal storage. Powered by a quite massive 3,240 mAh battery using quick charging tech the device features NFC connectivity, a 5-inch impact resistant 1080p screen panel and a fingerprint scanner hidden in the power button.
Moving to pricing and availability, so far Kyocera didn’t revealed the exact date of the DuraForce Pro’s market premiere like they didn’t shared the pricing details yet. However we can safely assume that the phone will become available nationwide in following months for something round $400. In addition, T-Mobile is rumored to be one of the carriers selling the handset.
