Earlier this month we reported on Kyocera working on a Sapphire glass display; however no one believed the rumors calling the project into question as too innovative. But, today’s leak makes it clear that Kyocera didn’t give up their plans and is close to deliver us the phone with extra durable display. The phone, we are talking about, is called Kyocera Brigadier and is confirmed to sport the Sapphire Glass Display.
Kyocera Brigadier with Sapphire Shield Display
The newest rumor leaves no doubts that Apple isn’t the only manufacturer with ambitious plan on launch a smartphone with sapphire display. And, if the leaked information turns out to be true, they can only look at Kyocera with jealousy, since the company is rumored to be the first one to launch a handset with this revolutionary display. In case you don’t know, the discussed sapphire glass isn’t something completely new in the mobile phone industry. Some time ago, Apple applied the extra strong material in iPhone S5’s home button and camera glass, but the Kyocera is the first one to use Sapphire Glass on this scale.
Why Sapphire glass is so special? Every smartphone user know how fragile smartphone is. One carless move can cost your device a really bad-looking scar on its screen. So, the companies manufacturing smartphones have put all their effort to equipped their products with display resistant to scratches, scrapes and lightweight, which resulted in very popular and widely applied Gorilla Glass. Nevertheless, Gorilla Glass didn’t satisfy the Kyocera’s imagination about the extra durable display. So, the company started their experiments with sapphire, proving that the material has no serious competitor in the scope of being extra resistant. But, the Kyocera’s perfect solution turned out to be too expensive and too harmful for the environment to be applied in on a mass scale, which almost put an end to the project.
Staying faithful to their plans, the company defeated all the obstacles and managed to materialize their dreams with launch of the Brigadier, which is said to be a rugged device that sports a 4.5-inch sapphire screen with 720×1280 resolution, 8-megapixel rear camera and 2-megapixel front-facing one. Other Brigadier’s specs include: 2 GB RAM, 16 GB of expandable built-in storage and far form the fastest 1.4 GHz processor. The mentioned parameters locate the handset somewhere between mid- and low-range offerings sector, making it obvious that the phone’s biggest advantage is its Sapphire Shield Display.
It’s also worth mentioning that the Sapphire Shield isn’t the only protection of the Brigadier. The handset is said to be labeled with IP68 dust & water resistant tag, as well as MIL-STD-810G confirming that your phone is resistant to extreme temperatures and other hazardous elements. This shouldn’t surprise you, since Kyocera is the company with great experience in manufacturing solid handsets.
Although Verizon was the carrier rumored to give the Kyocera’s Brigadier to masses in the US, so far there is no official announcement confirming this information. Don’t you think it’s a little ironic, that when Apple is boasting about introducing sapphire glass displays along with iPhone 6’s release, Kyocera quietly put their plans into practice? The coming fall will show us which company will win the sapphire display race, delivering us the extra durable smartphone.
