Remember that strange looking device that Huawei executive was showing off yesterday on Weibo website? It was announced today, so we know what it is. The wearable is called TalkBand B1 and is not a smartwatch like it was previously speculated but rather a nifty companion accessory to a smartphone. The device is set to sell for about €99, which is about $136 and it will be available starting next month in China. The band is expected to arrive to other markets in second quarter of 2014 including Europe, Japan, the Middle East, and Russia.

The TalkBand B1 features a 1.4-inch flexible OLED screen and connects with your smartphone via Bluetooth and NFC. Huawei promises that the device will work perfectly with phone with Android version 2.3 and up and Apple devices with iOS 5 and above. That’s a good news, since it means that the wearable will be compatible even with older phone phones released in 2012.
Upon seeing the device on Weibo yesterday, we wondered about its protruding display. Now the secret is revealed and it looks like the display can be removed from its band and be used it at instant as a Bluetooth headset. In addition to showing time and date, the band also displays caller ID and fitness data such as steps taken or calories burnt. The wearable also has a sleep tracking feature, which monitors your sleeping pattern and learns to wake you at the optimal time.
The earpiece weighs 9.4 g, and has a 90 mAh battery which should provide up to seven hours of talk time six days of fitness tracking us. The display together with the band is 14.6 mm thick. The band will be available in an assortment of color options including black, blue, yellow, red and more.
