Earlier today at an event in Paris Huawei made official its newest Android flagship smartphone, the Huawei Ascend P7. A successor to the Ascend P6, the Ascend P7 is slim, attractive looking and packed to the fullest with advanced hardware and redesigned software. The phone is expected to go on sale some time in coming weeks in Europe and Asia for a price of 449 euro without a contract which would be about $625 at today’s rate of exchange.
Huawei Ascend P7 Android Smartphone
Last year’s Ascend P6 was the thinnest smartphone of its time. The Huawei Ascend P7 didn’t break that record this time, however, with a profile of just 6.5 mm it’s still one of the slimmest devices available on the market. To give you something to compare, the HTC One M8 measures 9.35 mm in thickness, the Samsung Galaxy S5 is 8.1 mm, and Apple’s iPhone 5S is 7.6 mm. Design-wise, the handset leaves nothing to desire. It’s sandwiched between two sheets of Corning Gorilla Glass 3 with a metal rim going around the edges.
The front panel houses a 5-inch LCD display with 1920 by 1080 pixels resolution which works out to a pixel density of 445 ppi. Inside the Ascend P7 sits a HiSilicon Kirin 910 SoC with Mali 450 graphics and a quad-core CPU clocked at 1.8 GHz. The chip would be comparable to Snapdragon 600, which isn’t bad but still a far cry from Snapdragon 801. The processor is assisted by 2 GB of RAM which should be just enough to get multitasking done without any hiccups.
The phone comes with 16 GB of internal memory and sports a microSD slot for storage expansion compatible with up to 32 GB cards. In terms of connectivity, the handset offers LTE, HSPA+, Wi-Fi, GPS, NFC, and Bluetooth 4.0. There is a 2,500 mAh battery keeping the lights on and it according to the manufacturer is should deliver up to 14 hours of talk-time on 3G or up to 400 hours of standby time.
The Huawei Ascend P7 is equipped with a 13-megapixel rear camera with LED flash, 4th generation Sony sensor, f2.0 aperture, and 5-element lens which is a pretty standard setup for a high-end phone. However, the front-facing shooter with its 8-megapixel sensor with a 5-element lens system and Panorama Selfie feature is something you don’t see everyday. Camera features include, among others, beautification mode, voice activated shooting and 1.2 seconds Ultra Snapshot mode.
Huawei’s brand new offering will ship with Android 4.4.2 KitKat out of the box with the company’s Emotion UI 2.3 on top. The latest version of Huawei’s skin offers support for UI themes, lock screen shortcuts, new widgets, toggle buttons in the notification panel and much more. There’s also no application drawer which means that every new app you install will show up on a home screen. Key features include a Harassment Filter, Do Not Disturb mode, a built-in virus scanning solution, a power saving mode, a notifications manager and a an ad blocker. We can’t help but wonder how Google will respond to this, since ads are the main source of income for the company.
The Huawei Ascend P7 will be available in white, black and pink color options.
