In the latest interview for the Chinese 21st Century Bussiness Herald, the Huawei’s CEO Yu Chengdong announce the company’s bold plans for the nearest release to the world, including plans on introducing a spin-off of the popular flagship Ascend P7 sporting extremely durable sapphire glass display. On the basis of what he said, we may notice that the manufacturer wants to join premium league in mobile electronics taking on leaders such as Vertu or Apple.
Huawei Ascend P7 with Sapphire display
The synthetic sapphire glass has been present in the mobile world news for at least a year. The material is completely scratchproof and lightweight resistant, which makes it extremely durable. The sapphire glass display, although still new in the industry, has already been applied in few smartphones. Just to refresh your memory, the luxury brand Vertu uses the sapphire glass in their products and Apple plans to introduce the technology in the long-awaited iPhone 6, but recently they have been overtaken by the Kyocera’s rugged smartphone called Brigadier. Now, Huawei appears to join the club with its successor of the Ascend P7.
The new version of Huawei Ascend P7 is said to be an extremely premium device (just as it predecessor hasn’t been premium enough) with bleeding edge tech parameters and extremely durable sapphire display. Though the use of the sapphire is still calling into question, and even if the technology won’t be introduced in the upcoming device, we can be pretty sure that the company will eventually introduce it in their future flagships. The problem that may hamper the implementing of the sapphire glass technology in the Huawei products may be the fact that the material though extremely durable is almost equally extremely hard to produce and quite expensive, which in turn will result in higher pricing.
Other Huawei’s key steps in reaching global renown revealed by Yu Chengdong refer to their e-commerce, which they plan to extend through opening more e-commerce channels. Apparently, the company wants to be more present on the other than Asian markets, but simultaneously they don’t aim at quick profit in short time, they want to build the image of the company as luxury high-end market brand. To make its intentions even clearer, the Huawei’s CEO, compared the mobile business with car industry, saying that they aren’t interested in being Volkswagen of the mobile market, they have ambitions to become the mobile equivalent of Audi or even Porsche. In other words, the manufacturer insinuates they’re not interested in gaining applause of masses, they want to conquer the high-end market.
We’re still much in the dark as it comes to the rumored Ascend P7’s successor, not knowing its official name, price or the date of debut. What’s more we don’t even know whether such a product will ever be brought to life. But, on the other hand, Huawei when wanting to impress their customers is highly probable to release the high-end smartphone with the sapphire glass display. Perhaps, the upcoming IFA will reveal some more details on the Ascend P7’s spin-off. Hope, we will know some more details concerning the phone pretty soon.
