Without waiting for the official beginning of this year’s Mobile World Congress, Huawei announced a whole team of new devices. One of them is the Ascend G6, an Android smartphone featuring 5MP front camera with wide-angle sensor and will be also available at a budget-friendly price. The phone will hit the market in April costing about $300, though at this point we are not sure whether or not you will be able to purchase it in the US. Hopefully, Huawei will clear this out soon.
Huawei Ascend G6 Android Smartphone
Design-wise, the Huawei Ascend G6 resembles last year’s Ascend P6, from its metallic edging, through rounded bottom down to its unusual placement of headphone jack. The G6 with its 7.9 mm profile is however thicker than the P6 which measures just 6.18 mm in thickness. The difference of 1.72 mm may not seem like a lot, but if you are using the phone with just one hand is really does make a difference.
The device sports a 4.5-inch display with a lowlish resolution of 960 x 540 pixels and is powered by a quad-core 1.2 GHz processor. In addition to 8 GB of internal memory there is also a microSD slot for storage expansion and a 2,000 mAh battery is keeping the lights on. Connectivity features include 4G LTE, NFC, Bluetooth Low Energy and dual-band Wi-Fi.
One of the things the Huawei Ascend G6 can be particularly proud of are its cameras. The rear camera shoots photos at 8 megapixels and offers autofocus, BSI sensor, f-2.0 aperture, blue glass infrared filter and integrated camera flash. The front-facing camera, with its 5-megapixel, wide-angle sensor takes self portraits to a whole new level. The camera is voice-activated and allows to record a 10-second audio clip to complement the photo.
The Ascend G6 runs Android 4.3 Jelly Bean with Huawei’s own Emotion UI on top offering two modes, Standard and Simplicity, with over 1,000 downloadable themes. The phone will be available in several color options including black with light gunmetal grey or rose gold highlights, or in white with pink or champagne gold. A 3G version will be up for grabs in black, white, pink, gold or blue color options.
