The new HTC One is going to hit stores by the end of this month and probably many of you are wondering how much the new HTC’s flagship smartphone will cost. Customers in Taiwan, HTC’s home country, already know. The prices for all three versions of the new device were revealed today and it appears that it will be cheaper than expected. Actually it will cost less than the unlocked iPhone 5. Keep in mind that the prices were unveiled for Taiwan only, but it is probable that customers in other markets will have to pay more or less the same price.
Prices for unlocked HTC One without contract
The 16 GB model of the HTC One will cost 19,900 TWD, which is approximately $671, the 32 GB version is priced at 21,900 TWD, which is about $734 and the price of the 64 GB variant is set at 24,900 TWD, which would be $840 (or €645). Being objective – it is not cheap, but when you compare the prices to the Apple iPhone 5, which is already 6 months old, you can see that the phones are priced similarly. The 16 GB, 32 GB and 64 GB versions of Apple’s handset cost $649, $749 and $849 respectively, with the last two models being actually more expensive than the HTC One.
Of course, the above prices were for unlocked devices without a contract. If you sign a service agreement with a carrier, the phone will set you back significantly less. In the US, the HTC One will be available on AT&T, T-Mobile and Sprint with prices starting at $199 and going up to $299 on the usual two-year contract for the 64 GB model.
