Last week HTC announced its latest addition to the One series – the A9 and promised that it will work on all US major carriers. At the moment, only AT&T, T-Mobile and Sprint models are available for pre-order but it doesn’t mean that the company somehow forgot about Verizon customers. Not at all. They will just have to wait a little bit longer, since the HTC One A9 Verizon variant will hit the stores in December.
Unlocked HTC One A9 for Verizon Wireless
Verizon doesn’t have plans to sell the A9 directly to customers, at least not anytime soon, but Big Red subscribers will be able to enjoy HTC’s latest offering anyway, and that’s despite the fact that it doesn’t have support for CDMA technology. However, all the phone needs to play nice with Verizon’s network is a little software update which will arrive in December. Once installed, it will allow the device to take advantage of the carriers LTE bands for all communication.
In the US, the A9 will replace the One M9, though spec-wise the phone is somewhat below its older brother. It has the same 5-inch 1080p display but is powered by a Snapdragon 617 processor rather than Snapdragon 810. Like the M9, the A9 has 3GB of RAM and 32GB of built-in memory expandable via microSD slot but it comes with a smaller 2,150 mAh battery which is expected to provide up to 16 hours of talk time or up to 18 days of standby time. On the bright side, the battery supports Quick Charge 2.0 with Quick Charge 3.0 update for the future after software update.
The HTC One A9 is equipped with a 13-megapixel rear camera with sapphire cover lens, auto-focus, BSI sensor, OIS, f/2.0 aperture and 1080p video capture as well as UltraPixel front-facing snapper. It also packs a variety of sensors including fingerprint scanner. The A9 is the first smartphone other than Nexus to launch with Android 6.0 Marshmallow out of the box. Of course, HTC added its own Sense skin on top.
Since Verizon won’t offer the phone in its stores, you will have to pick it up directly from HTC. That said, if you plan to use the A9 on Verizon, you might want to buy it now instead of waiting until December. HTC is currently selling the device at a promotional price of $399.99. The deal runs through November 7th and after that day the phone will cost $499.99.
