HP Pro x2 612 TabletLaptop-tablet Hybrid devices seem to be gaining a lot of traction recently. Just few days ago Asus unveiled its massive and impressive Transformer Book V and today we have learnt the details of another convertible machine, this time coming from Hewlett Packard. The company has just announced a 12-inch HP Pro x2 612 laptop-tablet hybrid with detachable keyboard dock. The device will go on sale sometime in September.

HP Pro x2 612 HybridIn some aspects the HP Pro x2 612 is similar to the Surface Pro 3 as both have 12.5-inch displays, offer stylus support and are powered by Intel processors. The Pro x2 612 will be available in several versions differing among each other in processors, storage and screen resolution.

The most basic model is powered by an Intel Core i3 and sports 64 GB of internal storage and 1366 x 768 resolution. The most premium model, on the other hand, comes with Full HD display, 512 GB of storage and an Intel Core i5 ticking inside. Some variants have 4G radio built-in, while others will be available running Windows 7 instead of Windows 8.1. All versions are equipped with a pair of HD cameras.

The tablet features a Wacom pen digitizer which is considered one of the most precise on the market thanks to 1,024 levels of pressure sensitivity. Wacom, however, requires some extra space so tablets with such technology tend to be rather thick. That said, the Pro x2 612 slate together with the keyboard weighs around 4 pounds which is twice as much as the Surface Pro 3.

The keyboard itself is a sturdy accessory that features a number of ports such as VGA, DisplayPort and Ethernet sockets, an SD slot and two USB 3.0 ports as well as its own battery. When the tablet is docked to the keyboard, the combined battery capacity will give you up to over 14 hours of usage time. The tablet’s unit is rated for up to 8 hours of usage.

HP also has an alternative for users who will find the device to heavy to carry around. Instead of the Power Keyboard, you will be able to attach the tablet to a soft ultra-mobile backlit keyboard, which offers a single USB 3.0 port, combo audio jack, and the power port.

Since the Pro x2 612 is aimed at business users, it packs a number of security features including HP BIOS, HP Client Security, HP Sure Start, Smart Card Reader, HP TPM and an optional fingerprint reader.
