6.8-inch Hisense Maxe X1 4G phablet arrives with maximum dimensions for a phone

ByinAnnouncements | February 26, 2014

Hisense Maxe X1MWC is a big event not only for leading electronics makers but also for less known ones, such as Hisense. Hisense is a Chinese manufacturer that may not be very popular in the US, especially when it comes to its contribution to the smartphone market, but the company came to Barcelona with quite interesting device to showcase, the Maxe X1 4G phablet. The phone which was briefly shown at Consumer Electronic Show in January, received a proper announcement in Barcelona and will be available for purchase in select markets within a month.

6.8″ Hisense Maxe X1 Android Phablet

Maxe X1 4GThe Hisense Maxe X1 4G is an unusual mixture of phone, tablet, TV, and set-top box features tucked in one huge package. True to its name, the Maxe is indeed of maximum dimensions for a phone. At 6.8 inches, its Full HD (1920 x 1080) display is just a tad smaller than a tablet.

Using a mysterious and probably very complicated formula, experts calculated that the size of the Maxe X1 would be perfect for a 180 cm (5’11”) tall man, the same way as the Samsung Galaxy Note is allegedly best fit for a 160 cm (5’3″) tall woman. However, because the Maxe X1 is pretty slim at 9.2 mm in thickness, even a petite woman shouldn’t have problems handling the phone.

The Maxe X1 is powered by 3,900mAh battery, quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor clocked at 2.3 GHz and packs a 13-megapixel front-facing camera, two stereo front speakers, 5.1 Dolby virtual surround technology and three noise-canceling microphones. The phone runs Android 4.4 KitKat right out the box.

The phablet supports WFD, DLAN, Hisense Sparing, and MHL as well as other sharing protocols. The phone can also interact with a variety of TV sets including non-smart TVs as long as they have HDMI ports. When connected via MHL cable, the phablet serves as an STB and a hand-held remote control.

Due to the phone’s size you probably wouldn’t be able to carry it in you jeans pocket, but rather in a purse or backpack. For this reason, the massive device comes with a NFC-enabled MINI Bluetooth companion phone. The mini device weighs only 20 grams and thanks to wireless communication with the Maxe X1 allows you to receive calls, send and receive messages without having to take out the phablet.

  1. Great phablet phone, but I can’t find a single reference to any sellers of it, no UK, US or China retailers. Have Hisense abandoned this product for some reason?

    • The phone should’ve been launched in select markets already, however, we have no word confirming where exactly the device is available. Indeed, the handset is enormous.
