Google Find My PhoneAll of us know how stressful and irritating it is to misplace a phone. We know all these stories. Asking everybody around for the tip, trying to locate it by tossing around piles of sofa cushions. Checking every nook and cranny and still couldn’t find it. We’ve all been there. Planning to put an end this common problem, Google introduced a new service which will help anyone to find its lost Android phone by using Google search. If your lost phone is nearby, you can ring it or if it’s further away you can see its exact location on the map with the help of the Google browser.

How to find my phone via Google search

Google LogoIt’s commonly known fact that Google is primarily an online search company and is the best in that. Therefore its new service allowing to track your phone shouldn’t surprise us at all. It’s simply another company’s business as usual. But it will surely make lives of many Android users considerably easier, especially those forgetful ones.

All you need to do is to know where your computer is and have the latest version of the Google app installed on your Android phone. If you meet all these, let’s say, pretty basic requirements you can go to Google.com and type the phrase “Find my phone”, which will enable you to check the location of your potentially-lost handset and even ring it if it’s still close enough. The ringtone will last five minutes and if you manage to find the phone just press the power button to silence it. Note that in some cases you may be asked to sign-in to your Google account to accomplish the tracking task.

All these sounds familiar to introduced in August 2013 a tool called Android Device Manager. Both the website and the app allow you to find your phones and tablets, but they have to run at least Android 2.2 Froyo or a higher version of the OS. Interesting enough, just last month the company incorporated the Android Device Manager into smartwatches operating on Android Wear platform. According to Google the app has already helped to find almost 30 million lost devices.

But whereas the app lets you track the phone in a very close proximity because its uses Bluetooth connectivity, the Google search will locate your phone even from across your town. However, note that if you want to remotely lock phone or erase your phone’s data to prevent it from ending up in the wrong hands, you will still have to use the Android Device Manager.
