A few days after Google posted a video giving you a taste of what to expect from the Google Glass, the company made an announcement about the headset’s expected launch date and pricing. A “fully polished” version of the device will be available to consumers by the end of this year and will cost less than $1,500 when it goes on sale. That is great news and Google fans have been waiting for it for quite some time.
What Google Glass does. How to get it.
What is Google Glass, anyway? It is a wearable computing device which looks jut like glasses equipped with a camera and a tiny transparent display that offers some rather interesting functionalities. Google Glass will allow users to receive and execute onscreen directions, send voice-controlled messages, and search the web through speech. The UI also includes voice-controlled photos, and as the video suggests, the device will offer onscreen translation support.
Last year in June Google accepted the first pre-orders for the “Explorer” edition of the headset for developers. The device cost $1,500 and was expected to start shipping at the beginning of this year. A few days ago, the company opened pre-orders for the Explorer headset to “creative individuals” for the same price. Not everyone will have a chance to get the device though. Google will hand out a limited number of Glass and the lucky ones will be chosen with the help of a brief application. All you have to do is explain how you would use Google Glass in no more than 50 words.
