It seems that the race for the title of the world’s thinnest phone is far away from the end. In fact, we have a new winner and this record definitely will be hard to beat, at least for some time. Ladies and gentlemen, meet the new record holder in category the slimmest smartphone – the Gionee Elife S5.5 Android phone measuring just 5.5 mm (~0.2165 inch) in thickness. Showcased at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, the phone will go on sale in China on March 18th. When it hits the stores this coming Tuesday, the handset will be priced at ¥2,299, that is approximately $374.
Gionee Elife S5.5 – The Slimmest Smartphone…
A proud owner of a 5.5 mm thin body, the Gionee Elife S5.5 is currently the slimmest smartphone that was ever made. The device is also 145.1 mm (5.71-inch) tall by 70.2 mm (2.76 inch) wide. The phone’s ultra slim profile is not its only strong point, though. The Elife S5.5 packs a 5-inch 1080p Full HD Super AMOLED Plus display with thin bezels and is powered by an octa-core 1.7 GHz MT6592 processor. In terms of memory, the phone offers 2 GB of RAM and 16 GB of internal storage.
The handset is equipped with a 13-megapixel rear sensor with auto focus as well as a 5-megapixel front-facing shooter with 95 degree wide-angle lens. Camera options include two shooting modes, professional and normal camera settings, and “Charm Camera” feature which offers auto make-up mode, footprint mode, and meeting memo mode.
Thanks to HSPA＋42 Mbps support with up to six different band sets, the Elife S5.5 will be compatible with most 3G WCDMA networks. Other connectivity features include Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0 and GPS navigation. The device comes with a non-removable 2,300 mAh battery and runs Amigo OS 2.0 which is based on Android 4.2 Jelly Bean OS version.
The Gionee Elife S5.5 will be available in several color options including black, white, blue, pink and purple. Gionee promises to release the phone in over 40 markets outside of China, so keep your eyes open.
