The first photos of the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S8 Active give us a hint so as to how the phone may look like. Above that, another portion of news unveils potentially true key specs of this highly anticipated handset. If to believe the rumors, the ruggedized edition of the device will come with a beefier battery and strengthened body shell.
The upcoming Samsung Galaxy S8 Active will offer bigger battery, extremely durable body and the same set of specs as flagship Galaxy S8.
Published on Chinese social media website Weibo the new pics of the Galaxy S8 Active fill all the gaps in the potential specs sheet of the handset. If they turn out to be true the rugged version of the Samsung’s recent flagship will be exactly the same high-end device as the Galaxy S8. What’s more its customers will be able to take advantage of some extra features unfound in the standard model.
The Galaxy S8 Active will house a 5.8-inch screen panel sporting shatter resistant design and 18.5:9 aspect ratio providing its users with 2960x1440p quality of viewing experience. Unfortunately, the extra durable body comes at the price of the curved display found in both the Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus.
Luckily, processing parameters remain unchanged, which means that the handset works on Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 835 processor coupled with 4GB RAM and 64GB of built-in expandable storage guarantying smooth Android Nougat performance. As for optics the Galaxy S8 Active houses a combination of a 12MP primary camera and a 8MP selfie shooter on the front. Meanwhile, a fingerprint scanner set on the back will take care of your data safety.
Heavy-duty body shell
Except for similarities, the Galaxy S8 Active offers several upgrades over the standard model of the device. First of all, it comes dressed in a rugged body armor labeled with MIL-STD 810G certification tag, which makes it resistant to all hostile condition it may encounter on its way. The polymer pumpers set on all four corners of the device protect it against all accidental bumps, whereas the IP 68 rating comes as a warranty of water and dust resistance. The handset is able to survive being buried in 1.5m deep water for half an hour.
Bold and generous battery
Second serious upgrade is visible in the battery. The 4,000 mAh unit used in the Active model is 1,000 mAh larger than the battery powering the original Galaxy S8. Although the more generous battery will last longer, it also affects the device’s aesthetics making it considerably thicker and heavier than the standard version. The device is 2 mm thicker than measuring 8 mm Galaxy S8 an 55 grams heavier than weighting 155 gram Galaxy S8.
Although details concerning the Galaxy S8 Active pricing and availability still need official confirmation, just as its predecessor, Galaxy S7 Active, it will surely be an AT&T-only offering. When it finally hits the market, it will be available in two color options: Meteor Gray and Titanium Gold.
