Keeping in line with the latest rumors Samsung got the central stage and unveiled the Galaxy S7 and the Galaxy S7 Edge just a day ahead of the MWC. Both phones come closed in a beautiful streamlined body made of glass and metal and a package of astonishingly powerful specs. Samsung announced the Galaxy S7

Just as promised Samsung unveiled the Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge a day before the MWC kicks off. The latest updates to the Galaxy flagship line come with water-proof body, expandable memory and Always-on display.


Second time in a row Samsung introduced a standard Galaxy S7 and an Edge variant of the device. The overall appearance of both handset doesn’t differ much from the one featured by the Galaxy S6 series. However, despite looking quite identical to their predecessors the Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge are noticeably thinner and sport a camera sensor that stays at the level of the glass back that now takes a slightly round form-factor which potentially should make the phone fit better into one’s hand.

However, looking much as their predecessor the Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge come with one considerable improvement when it comes to the body design. Both phones are tagged with IP69 certification which makes them dust and water resistant. In practice it means that they may survive a 50 minute submersion in a 1.5 meter deep water.


Specs-wise, the Samsung Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge are more surprising and bring several pleasing changes. Just as rumored the handsets are powered by a Samsung’s own Exynos 8990 processor coupled with 4GB RAM and 32GB of thankfully once again expandable up to 200GB storage due to microSD card slot the manufacturer decided to return to. Speaking of batteries, both phones are charged wirelessly via microUSB connection rather than USB Type-C port.

Other specs include a 12MP rear-facing camera with OIS and F1.7 aperture, 5MP front sensor also with F1.7 aperture, fingerprint scanner, NFC and 4G LTE connectivity.


Moving on to the screen department, the standard Samsung Galaxy S7 houses a 5.1-inch AMOLED display, whereas the Edge model comes with a bigger 5.5-inch also AMOLED panel. What’s more the Edge screen functionality has also been enhanced and the panel’s size has been boost from 260p to 550p.

Just as the announced earlier yesterday LG G5, the Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge arrive with the Always-on display feature that significantly improves the handsets’ battery life and functionality. The best thing in Best Buy’s pre-sale deal is that the retailer grants their customers with a free Samsung Gear VR headset and a bonus 64GB microSD card.

Naturally, if you don’t want to buy the Galaxy S7 or S7 Edge while paying its full retail price, you can take advantage of installment plans already delivered by four major US carriers. Going this route, AT&T will sell the 32GB Galaxy S7 for $23.12 per month within the AT&T Next 24 plan, additionally within the same plan you can get the Galaxy S7 Edge for $26.50 per month.

Moving on, Sprint is introducing a special “Galaxy Forever” program which will allow its customers to get the latest Samsung flagship each year on a 12-month lease plan. Pricing for the said plan starts at $25.99 each month through 24 months for the Galaxy S7 (you will be eligible for a device upgrade after 12 months) or at $30.50 per month for the Edge version. You may also purchase the device instead of leasing it, then, the standard S7 will cost you $27.09 per month (24 installments) or if you opt for the S7 Edge you will need to pay $31.25 each of 24 months.

Although Verizon and T-Mobile confirmed the Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge availability, they didn’t shared their pricing details yet. All four service providers start collecting preorders on February 23 whereas on March 11 the Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge will join the carriers’ stores list of offerings.

As for the color options, the Galaxy S7 will be available in Black Onyx and Gold Platinum. Meanwhile, the Galaxy S7 Edge except for being sold in Black Onyx and Gold Platinum will be additionally accessible in Silver Titanium.
