We have two new details for you today regarding the Galaxy S6 Active ruggedized smartphone giving us better picture what to expect from the device which official announcement is expected any time soon. Firstly, the phone has just passed through the FCC as the Samsung SM-G890A. Secondly, caught in the wild, the AT&T variant of the Galaxy S6 Active appeared in new live photos. The images present front and back sides of the dressed in black variant of the smartphone. Let’s take a closer look.
Samsung Galaxy S6 Active SM-G890A – What to expect from the forthcoming rugged phone
The model number SM-G890A that has recently received the FCC approval stamp is highly probable to debut as the Galaxy S6 Active since the predecessor of the phone, known as the Galaxy S5 Active, carried a model number of SM-G870A.
The leaked images show a phone featuring the AT&T Galaxy S6 Active branding that strongly resembles the previous model of the Active lineup. Sporting a solid tank-like body both devices have the same hardware buttons located on the front side meaning that the fingerprint scanner found in the Samsung’s recent flagships, the Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge, won’t be present here. This isn’t much of a surprise since the same thing happened to the Galaxy S5 Active.
Another quite noticeable change in the Galaxy S6 Active design concerns location of the loudspeaker, which this time has been set on the handset’s back, instead of being present on the bottom side like in the case of the Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge.
Specs-wise, the phone will house a large 5.1-inch AMOLED Quad HD display and be powered by the Exynos 7420 chipset. Optics are said to be represented by a combination of a 16MP rear camera and 5MP front-facing snapper. In other words the handset will bring the same bleeding edge specs as the Galaxy S6, except for the battery. The rugged variant of the phone is reported to hit the market with a massive 3,500 mAh battery, instead of the Galaxy S6’s 2,600 mAh unit.
And last but definitely not least, the Galaxy S6 Active, in opposition to the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge arrives closed in a waterproof case, which makes it an even better companion for all adventure-lovers.
As for the Galaxy S6 Active’s premiere details, they are still much of a secret. However, the fact that the phone undergoes the testing phase may suggest that it will be released rather sooner than later.
