Avoiding to compete with Samsung and HTC battle on flagship smartphones premiere at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Sony postponed the premiere of the Xperia Z4. This way the Japanese company gained necessary time to work on enhancing its 2015 flagship phone’s design that we can admire now on the very first press renders of the Xperia Z4 that have just surfaced online and additionally reveal phone’s dimensions.
Sony Xperia Z4 – What to expect.
Recently we got many leaks concerning the Xperia Z4’s specs and features. But today, thanks to the first Sony Xperia Z4 press images, we got the chance to move beyond specific parts of the handset and take a look at the phone as a complete device.
Measuring 146.3 x 71.9 x 7.2 mm, the body of the Xperia Z4 won’t differ much from its predecessor in terms of size. Most probably its screen diagonal will be also identical to the one found in the Xperia Z3, which means a 5.2-inch display. Interestingly enough, the handset will once more come with the OmniBalance look accompanied by the round aluminum power button in the middle of the right side well-known from previous members of the Xperia lineup.
But despite of the similarities, there are also few design differences present in the upcoming flagship. First of all, the top speaker (or earpiece) is now located on the phone’s edge not in the middle of the bezel like in the case of the Z3. We can expect the same changes for the bottom part of the stereo speaker set. Placing the two speakers even further apart will reportedly improve the stereo sound quality.
Furthermore, the front-facing shooter seems to be a bit bigger than in the Z3. Moving on, there’s also no sign of the microSD card slot protective flap, what can mean two things: either the manufacturer have relocated the card slot or perhaps resigned from the memory extension at all.
Naturally, the hardware field changes will be of more significant character than those concerning the external design. Under the Xperia Z4’s hood we will surely find a faster chipset, perhaps higher screen resolution and even more advanced optics. We can expect Sony to equip the Z4 with its latest IMX230 sensor featuring real-time HDR and image plane phase detection autofocus.
Running Android 5.0.2 Lollipop the Xperia Z4 is reported to come powered by an octa-core Snapdragon 810 chip coupled with 3GB of DDR4 RAM. When it comes to battery life, so far there’s no word on the battery parameters, but taking into account the great endurance of the Z3’s battery we can expect the Z4 to house an even better and more powerful unit.
As for the premiere details, so far Sony didn’t unveil when they plan to showcase the phone officially. However, knowing that the Xperia Z3 debuted last year at IFA event, we can expect the Sony Xperia Z4 will steal the IFA 2015 show.
