Back in October 2013 AT&T announced that would be adding the FiLIP smart locator to its offer. Four months later the carrier finally kept its word and the FiLIP smartwatch is now available for purchase from AT&T online and in local stores. The wearable is priced at $199.99; however, you can have it for $99.99 if you activate the device as a new line of service. Plans for the FiLIP locator cost $10 per month and include unlimited voice and data location.
FiLIP Smart Locator Watch
The FiLIP is a wearable device designed specifically for children in mind combining features of a smartwatch and phone. Thanks to a built in smart locator, the FiLIP is not only a cool gadget, but also a safety device allowing parents to control whereabouts of their children at any time and see their location on the map. The FiLIP features two-way calling and can store up to five trusted numbers which its user can call. Moreover, the FiLIP is capable of receiving text messages.
Parents can also set Safe Zones for their child. When the child leaves the Safe Zone, the FiLIP automatically notifies the parents. The device has an emergency button, which when pressed and held, will prompt the FiLIP to send a text message with the child’s location to the five numbers stored on the device. Then it begins recording ambient sounds and starts calling each of the five numbers and, in case of no answer, emergency services.
The FiLIP sports a 1.8-inch display with 128 x 128 resolution, as well as a 390 mAH battery. The wearable is compatible with any iPhone running iOS 6 and later, and Android smartphone with 2.3 and later versions. The FiLIP is available in two sizes, small and big, with a Dragon Green wristband with more color options to come in the future.
