We are still months away of the iPhone 6 announcement, but the web is already filled out with reports, leaks, and photos of Apple’s next smartphone. Well, in the case of photos, these are not the actual devices that have been pictured but prototypes, display models and accessories, though still it’s nice to get more clear idea of what to expect. The last batch of images comes from Romanian iPhone store and shows a dummy iPhone 6 measured versus iPhone 5S.
iPhone 6 vs. iPhone 5S – Dimensions
The device was caught on camera from every possible angle and was measured with a digital sliding gauge. There’s no doubt now that the iPhone 6 will be bigger yet slimmer than its predecessor. The Apple iPhone 6 dummy measures 5.41 x 2.64 x 0.28 inch (137.5 x 67 x 7 mm); for comparison, the iPhone 5S has dimensions of 4.87 x 2.30 x 0.3 inch (123.8 x 58.6 x 7.6 mm). Earlier rumors suggested that the new iPhone could be measure less than 7 mm, but as you can see, the phone is exactly 7 mm thick. It may not be as slim as some hoped for but it is pretty thin anyway.
Bigger body obviously means larger screen. The dummy has a 4.7-inch display which is consistent with what we have heard before. A while back a rumor hit the mill that the iPhone 6 will be available in two screen size options, the other one measuring 5.5 inches diagonally. Recently we have learned that the larger model has been delayed as a result of problems with battery supply. Report suggest that iPhone 6 will offer a display resolution of 960 x 1704 which is a 50% increase compared to the iPhone 5S.
Design-wise the iPhone 6 seems to be a reminiscent of the iPod. It’s still very similar to the iPhone 5S, but a few changes can be seen clearly. For starters, the power button was moved from top to the right edge. The photo of the back panel also suggest some changes in camera setup. While we don’t have all the technical details just yet, it looks like the dual-LED flash won’t be present on the new iPhone. Instead, there seems to be some kind of a circular flash. On our guess it may be either a new technology or just a placeholder for the flash on a prototype. We will know more in coming weeks after new set of leaks and rumors. Stay tuned.
