Nokia announced the 6-inch Lumia 1320 Windows 8 phablet in October last year as an affordable massive smartphone for masses. As weeks turned into months and there wasn’t as much as a rumor suggesting that at some point the device would make it across the US border. We simply assumed that the device was destined for developing markets only where should receive more attention thanks to its competitive price tag. It turns out that the big boy is up for grabs in the US after all. The new Cricket Wireless network, revamped after merger with AT&T, has just launched the Nokia Lumia 1320 at a price of $229.99 after a $50 mail-in rebate.
Nokia Lumia 1320 for Cricket Wireless
The Nokia Lumia 1320 for Cricket Wireless is one of the biggest members of the Lumia family. The phablet packs a 6-inch display, just like the Lumia 1520, though its resolution is lower – 720p versus 1080p on the 1520.
Inside the handset’s enormous body a 1.7 GHz dual-core Snapdragon 400 processor is ticking along 1 GB of RAM. Internal memory offers 8 GB of space for all your content, plus there is microSD slot for storage expansion up to 64 GB. Being such a big guy, the Lumia 1320 needs a lot of juice to get your through the day and for that purpose Nokia used a hefty 3,400 mAh battery.
Other features include a 5-megapixel rear camera, VGA front-facing sensor and 4G LTE radio. The Nokia Lumia 1320 ships with Windows Phone 8 on board; however, the platform will be updated for free to Windows Phone 8.1 in the coming months. Like other Lumia phones, the 1320 is available in several color options – in addition to the standard black and white hues, you can also choose red and yellow. For now, the Nokia Lumia 1320 is available only from the new Cricket Wireless and it looks like it might stay that way as no other carrier disclosed plans to release the device any time soon.
All in all, the Lumia 1320 is a decent phone that offers great value for a pretty affordable price. It may not be as high-end as the Lumia 1520, but frankly speaking, for its price range it has quite a lot to offer, especially considering that no lengthy contracts are involved. If you are looking for a large Windows Phone device but don’t want to spend a fortune on it, the Nokia Lumia 1320 might be a good choice.
