After release its successor the Pantech Link II, the price for the original Link has dropped recently to the lowest point giving great opportunity for folks looking for a cheap texting phone to snag a pretty sweet deal.

Today, you can buy the Pantech Link for as little as $23.88 without contract. Since it is an unlocked phone, you will be able to use it with any GSM carrier, from AT&T, through T-Mobile to pre-paid providers. Learn more about the Unlocked Pantech Link

Cheap Texting Phone: Unlocked Pantech LinkThe Pantech Link P7040 is only 0.39 inch thick and has a nice rubberized texture on the back, which gives the feeling of grippiness and solidity. What catches your eye when you pick up the phone is the full QWERTY keyboard, with 4 rows of backlit keys, including typical function and symbol keys. The keys are raised above the surface, which gives the impression of them being spaced apart and makes typing much easier and faster. Predictive text entry provides even more help while texting.

Above the keyboard is the navigation array with two soft keys, a dedicated speakerphone key, a Clear key, a round toggle, and the Send and End/Power keys. The toggle has a confirmation key in the center and also serves as a shortcut to a new text message, the instant messaging menu, address book, and e-mail.

The Pantech Link is a quad-band GSM phone (850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900 MHz) and dual-band HSDPA (850 / 1900 MHz) phone, meaning that it hits 3G data speeds. It also offers stereo Bluetooth version 2.0 + EDR, GPS and access to various e-mail providers, for example Yahoo, AOL, Windows Live and more. The phone sports Opera Mini 4.2 Web browser for surfing the net, but since it has a rather small screen of only 2.4 inches (320 x 240 pixel resolution and 262,000 color support), the experience may not be very comfortable and you will have to do a lot of scrolling.

The Pantech Link is equipped with a 1.3 megapixel camera with 4x zoom and 320 x 240 pixel at 15 fps video capture, but unfortunately there is no flash or auto focus. The phone packs a music player supporting MP3, MIDI, iMelody, WAV, MMF, WMA, and 3GPA files, but the proprietary headphone jack makes finding compatible earbuds difficult.

This affordable phone offers only 80 MB of internal storage but the microSD card slot is compatible with up to 32 GB memory so you can easily expand it. It also runs proprietary operating system so you don’t have to purchase expensive data plan, which is good, but on the other hand, do not expect Android functionality.

The phone book allows for 600 entries, each including up to six numbers, three e-mail addresses, a company name, a messenger ID, a Web address, three street addresses, a birthday, an anniversary date, and a note.

Other basic features of the Pantech Link include: a vibrate mode, a speakerphone, text and multimedia messaging, an alarm clock, a calendar, a notepad, a voice recorder, a world clock, a calculator, a tip calculator, a stopwatch, a timer, and a unit converter.
