Best Buy SamsungAndroid Wear, the spin-off of Google’s successful platform, was initially pegged for two smartwatches, the LG G Watch and the Motorola 360. During its annual conference, Google confirmed that a third device would be released with Android Wear on board, the Samsung Gear Live. The G Watch is ready for purchase from Best Buy and the retailer is accepting pre-orders for the Gear Live which is currently listed as “coming soon.”

LG and Samsung smartwatches on Best Buy

LG Samsung smartwatchesFor a while we have been wondering how much the watches will cost and now we finally know the prices of the devices. For the LG G Watch in titan black and white gold you will have to pay $229.99 and the Samsung Gear Live you will set you back $199.99. Both devices will be shipped for you without any charge as Best Buy is offering free shipping.

Now, let’s see what’s so special about those smartwatches. The LG G Watch is powered by a 1.2GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 processor and sports a 1.65-inch IPS LCD display with 280 x 280 pixels across its face. The LG G Watch offers 4GB of storage, along with 512MB of RAM and a 400mAh battery. The measurements of the device are 37.9 x 46.5 x 9.95 mm and it weighs about 63 grams. The G Watch also features a built-in pedometer which counts the number of steps taken during pre-determined time.

The Samsung Gear Live features a 1.2GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 processor and a 1.63-inch Super AMOLED display with 320 x 320 resolution. The Gear Live also has 4GB of internal memory and 512MB of RAM and is powered by a 300 mAh battery. The smartwatch measures 37.9 x 56.4x 8.9 mm and tips the scale at 59 grams. The Gear Live offers standard notifications such as SMS or email and allows for voice operating. The device also includes hear rate monitor and is compatible with a number of Android smartwatches.

Both watches also support Bluetooth 4.0 and come with some extras such as a gyroscope, accelerometer and compass inside. In addition, the devices are dust and water resistant, so you won’t have to worry about being caught in the rain.

If for some reason Best Buy is not your retailer of choice, there are other options for purchase including Google Play Store and Amazon, though prices are decidedly higher if you choose the latter. In addition to US market, the smartwatches also will be available in Australia, Canada, France, Germany, India, Ireland, Italy, Japan, South Korea, Spain, and the UK.

Out of the trio, Motorola is the only one that hasn’t made its new smartwatch available so far. As Google announced at its I/O developer conference in San Francisco, the Moto 360 will arrive later this summer; however, neither exact launch date nor pricing is known at the moment.

Even though the new watches from Samsung and LG look quite fancy, smartwatches still remain niche products aimed at select group of tech-loving customers. With Motorola about to release the Moto 360 competition will reach a new level and it will be interesting to see how and if this category of products will gain more traction.
