Long gone are the times when there were just a few models of smartphones in stores all offering comparable features. Today phones come in all shapes and sizes and with all imaginable hardware configurations ranging from basic to top of the line. If you are in the market for a device with unconventional solutions, LG’s new offering called V10 might the one you are looking for. The phone was officially introduced earlier this month and is now available for purchase in the US – starting today, AT&T and T-Mobile are selling the new LG V10.
LG V10 is available via AT&T and T-Mobile
AT&T is the only US carrier that offers the LG V10 on contract in addition to installment plan and outright purchase. If you are willing to stick with the carrier for the next two years, you can grab the device for just $249.99.
If you prefer to pay off the phone in monthly installments, you can choose one of AT&T Next plans in which case the V10 will cost you 23.34, $29.17 or $35 per month with Next 24, Next 18 or Next 12, respectively. If you order the handset between October 30th and November 15th, you will also get a 200GB microSD card, an extra battery, and a battery charging cradle for free as a part of AT&T’s special promotion.
T-Mobile doesn’t seem to be offering any special promotions, at least for the time being, but is selling the phone for $100 off that is for $599 outright. If your budget can’t handle such significant expense, you can opt for interest-free financing which allows you to buy the phone for $0 down plus 24 monthly payments of $25 each.
The LG V10 is the first member of LG’s new premium V-series. What sets the phone apart from other high-end devices is that it’s equipped with two screens and two front cameras. Dual-screen solution is not new in smartphones, however, unlike other manufacturers who typically put the second screen on the back, LG went in a completely new direction and placed the secondary screen on the front panel above the main display.
The secondary screen measures 2.1 inches diagonally, has 160 x 1040 resolution and serves for displaying notifications when the main display is off and run shortcuts when the main display is on. Speaking of the main display, it measure 5.7 inches diagonally and offers QHD resolution. Front panel also houses a duo of 5-megapixel selfie cameras which are capable of making wide-angle photos thanks to a special algorithm.
In addition to having dual screens and cameras, the V10 is packed to the fullest with high-end hardware. For starters, it boasts a hexa-core Snapdragon 808 processor accompanied by 4GB of RAM and offers as much as 64GB of built-in memory which can be expanded up to 2TB with microSD. Moreover, the phone comes with a large 3,000 mAh battery and an impressive 16-megapixel main camera with OIS 2.0, f/1.8 aperture and manual mode for video.
To match the phone’s premium components, LG also used high quality materials for the body. The V10 has stainless steel frame and is ‘MIL-STD-810G Transit Drop Compliant’ which means that it’s not as fragile as a regular smartphone. The back of the device is covered with Dura Skin which is scratch resistant and has textured surface which prevents the phone from slipping from your hand.
It goes without saying that the LG V10 is a one of a kind device. In theory, a secondary always-on display and dual front cameras have great potential, however, it remains to be seen how the phone will perform in practice. Hopefully it will manage to live up to expectations, because on paper it looks awesome.
