It goes without saying that the upcoming LG G4 will be one of the most exciting devices this year. The phone begins its global rollout this week and while we still don’t know exact release date in the US, we do know that it won’t be long now. In the meantime, the Korean company prepared a little surprise for less demanding audience – a handset named Escape 2 has just showed up in AT&T store.

As always, the carrier is offering several payment options. If you are willing to stick with AT&T for the next two years, you can sign a new contract and have the Escape 2 for just $0.99. You can also opt for monthly payments in which case the phone will cost you $6, $7.50 or $9 per month with AT&T Next 24, Next 18 or Next 12, respectively. Last but not least, you can grab the device for $179.99 outright.
The LG Escape 2 comes as a successor to the LG Escape which was release over two years ago. It usually doesn’t take manufacturers that long to launch a follow-up but apparently LG had other things to think about. Anyway, the Escape 2 brings a bunch of important improvements compared to its predecessor. For starters, the phone has a bigger and sharper display measuring 4.7 inches diagonally and offering 720p resolution. Powering the handset is a 64-bit Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 chip with 1.2GHz quad-core CPU and Adreno 306 GPU, and there is 1GB of RAM to take care of multitasking.
The Escape 2 offers modest 8GB of internal memory which, however, can be expanded up to 32GB via microSD slot. The phone is also equipped with an 8-megapixel rear camera along with a 1-megapixel selfie shooter, and sports a 2,100 mAh battery which should be good for up to 14 hours of talk time or up to 17 days of standby time. All the components are packed into a slightly curved body which seems to take a leaf from LG G Flex book. The Escape 2 runs Android 5.0 Lollipop with LG features such as Glance View, Gesture Shot, KnockOn, and Knock Code.
The LG Escape 2 was launched quietly probably in order not to steal too much attention from the upcoming flagship LG G4. However, a little more publicity certainly wouldn’t hurt, since the Escape 2 seems like a really decent offering, especially considering its super affordable price.
