If you are a parent, you probably know how curious children can be. For some mysterious reason, those little hands are strongly drawn to electronics such as tablets, phones, watches and other smart and expensive devices. Since kids are a very specific group of users, they need devices designed especially for them. Tablets for children have been available for a while and now it’s time for smartwatches. AT&T took care of all family members today and launched FiLIP 2 watch for children and Timex Ironman One GPS+ fitness watch for adults.
AT&T FiLIP 2 Watch
The FiLIP 2 watch is up for grabs starting today for a promotional price of $99.99. You should know that this is a limited time offer as in January 2015 the price will go up to $149.99. So if you want one, it might be a good idea to buy it rather sooner than later. Also until January 8th the device can be included in Mobile Share Value, or you can pick it up as a standalone plan for $10 per month.
The FiLIP 2 is an update to the FiLIP watch released in 2013. This year’s model was redesigned to look more attractive and has adjustable wristband. There is also a new color option – Superhero Blue. New looks aside, the FiLIP 2 keeps the same functionality as the original.
The watch has limited two-way voice calling and can receive text messages from designated contacts. Most importantly, however, the device allows you to keep track of your child’s location through GPS and Wi-Fi triangulation and delivers the data directly to your smartphone. You can also set Safe Zones and receive alerts whenever the child leaves the zone.
Timex Ironman One GPS+
The Timex Ironman One GPS+, on the other hand, is available for pre-order today from AT&T online and retail stores starting today. If you prefer to shop from your own couch, you will have to wait until November 10th – that’s when pre-orders will start online. Either way, the device will set you back $399.99 and will include a year’s worth of AT&T data.
The Ironman One GPS+ is a far cry from the likes of the Galaxy Gear or Moto 360 when it comes to design. The device is rather large and chunky but at the same time very durable – it is water resistant up to 50 meters.
The watch packs Qualcomm’s Mirasol display technology with enhanced sunlight readability, 4GB of internal memory and a 450 mAh battery which is good for up to 8 hours of usage time or up to 3 days of standby time. Main features of the device include the ability to track speed, distance and pace in real-time and instantaneously share the data online. The One GPS+ is capable of receiving mail and texts, but voice calls are off limits.
For a long time smartwatches were considered nothing more than fancy toys. Those times are gone, though. In addition to being cool gadgets you want to show off to your friends, smartwatches can actually serve important purposes such as improving the safety of your child or helping you monitor your workout. For this reason, more and more users want a smartwatch for themselves or their loves ones. Interested too? If so, visit AT&T.
