It looks like the rumors about a Facebook phone were true after all. During a special event Facebook presented today the results of its cooperation with HTC – a smartphone with Facebook Home, which is the social network’s new experience on Android platform. The phone, named the HTC First is now available for pre-order and will hit the stores on April 12th. The handset will cost $99.99 with a new two-year contract on AT&T network. The HTC First is the very first phone to come with pre-installed Facebook Home but there is no doubt we can expect more to launch in the future.
HTC First Phone with Facebook Home
Facebook Home is a feature designed to enrich users Facebook experience on Android phones. It acts as a replacement of both, a home screen and lock screen. The feature automatically displays pictures and status updates right on the display. A single update takes up the whole screen so in order to check the next or previous one, you will need to swipe right or left. There is one catch though – Facebook Home does not support other widgets and it is not revealed yet how it will display notifications from other apps running on smartphone.
As for the phone itself, the HTC First was announced with a 4.3-inch touch screen, a 5 megapixel rear camera, a dual-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 processor, and 4G LTE support. The smartphone runs Android 4.1 Jelly Bean right our the box. No more details are known so far, but since the revealed specs coincide with the HTC Myst rumored last month, we can expect the First to offer 720p HD resolution, 1 GB of RAM, 16 GB internal memory without microSD support, and a 1.6 megapixel front camera.
The HTC first will be available in red, white, blue and black.
