Asus Zenwatch debuts with perfectly circular design, stunning metal frame and Android Wear software.
Smartwatches haven’t been around for quite as long as smartphones so there’s still a lot of room for innovation and improvements. There are also not so many models to choose from, but every smartphone maker wants to have at least one smartwatch in its offer and Asus is no different. Asus Zenwatch 3 just debuted at IFA with perfectly circular design, stunning metal frame and Android Wear software.
Asus unveiled the Zenwatch 3 at IFA 2016. The smartwatch has quite a lot to offer and it’s beautiful too.
The first word that comes to mind when you look at the watch is “breathtaking.” It’s easily the most beautiful smartwatch that was ever launched. The wearable is made of jewelry-grade 316L stainless steel and measures just 9.95 mm in thickness so it can be considered thin, at least compared to other smartwatches. It will be available in three color options – gunmetal, silver and rose gold, each with a gold inlay. Clearly, folks over at Asus are astronomy enthusiasts, or at least very impressed with today’s solar eclipse in Africa, since they describe the inlay as “the corona of an annular solar eclipse.” Whether the comparison is accurate or not, is for you to decide, but the truth is that the design really catches the eye. The body is also IP67 water resistant.
The Zenwatch 3 sports a 1.39-inch AMOLED display with 400×400 resolution which translates to 287 pixels per inch. Powering the wearable is a Qualcomm Snapdragon Wear 2100 processor paired with 512MB of RAM and there’s 4GB of built-in memory. The battery is a 314 mAh unit and according to Asus, it should be good for up to days of usage time. Not enough for you? Don’t worry, the watch comes with “HyperCharge” technology which allows you to charge the device up to 60 percent in barely 15 minutes. Asus will also launch a special battery pack accessory, whatever that may be.
As far as software is concerned, the Zenwatch 3 runs standard Android Wear so you know more of less what to expect. You will have three faces to choose from or you can design your own with FaceDesigner app. Like most smartwatches, Asus’ offering also comes with fitness tracking capabilities for step-counting , running, push-ups and sit-ups.
The Zenwatch 3 will hit the market in Europe soon with a price tag of €229 which is about $255. It very likely that the wearable will be available in the US too, but so far Asus hasn’t revealed when and for how much.
