Yesterday, ASUS officially unveiled the newest addition to Zenfone lineup during their CES event. Featuring higher-end specs, the ASUS Zenfone 2 packing 4GB dual-channel RAM with budget-friendly price seems to be a serious rival to smartphones offered by HTC and LG. What’s more interesting, carrying improved camera options and a high screen-to-body ratio the Zenfone 2 is the world’s first phone to go on sale equipped with 4GB dual-channel RAM, which definitely makes the device an eye-catching offer.

Starting from the design, the ASUS Zenphone 2 appears to be a real good-looker. Its stylish metal body measures only 3.9 mm thickness and houses a massive but rather lower-end IPS 5.5-inch display with 1080p resolution and ASUS’ TruVivid technology. The screen is encircled by a chassis that takes just 28 percent of the handset’s overall front side, so its perfect body-to-screen ratio makes the phone not only look good but also feel great in hand.
As it comes to design language, it’s pretty obvious that ASUS designers drew inspirations form HTC and LG. The metal body is reminiscent of HTC design, whereas the rear-mounted power and volume rockers remind those found in LG phones. Still, the textured metal cover is typical for the ASUS own premium tablets.
Moving on to the Zenfone 2’s specs sheet, the mentioned 4GB RAM is guarantying its future users the unprecedented bleeding edge multitasking experience. In other words, we will be able to use more applications in the background than ever. The phone is powered by a 64-bit quad-core Intel Atom Z3580 processor and the 3,000 mAh battery that keeps the Zenfone 2 lights on. Thanks to the fast charging technology the battery provides its users with 60 percent of energy in just 39 minutes of charging, which is a result very similar to the one achieved by Qualcomm’s Quick Charge tech.
In terms of optics, the phone comes with an 13-megapxiel main camera with improved HDR and dual-toned flash and a decent 5-megapixel front-facing shooter. In addition, the phone hosts support for the LTE Cat. 4 connectivity and dual-SIM slots are available at some of the phone’s variants, just like the 4GB RAM. On the software side, the Zenfone 2 users will get the latest Android 5.0 Lollipop with the recently updated version of the ASUS Zen UI installed on the top of it.
Speaking of the availability and pricing, the ASUS Zenfone 2 is reported to hit the market no sooner than in March, but we may except the phone’s premiere dates vary depending on the market. The device will go on sale labeled with the price tag starting from $199.99, which means that if you decide to buy the 4GB RAM model, you will have paid considerably more. How much? Well, it’s still kind of a mystery.
