Asus MeMo Pad on sale for $149, need a cheaper Nexus 7 alternative?

Memo PadAsus kept its promise and the 7-inch MeMo Pad is available for purchase as of Today. You may be tempted to compare it to the Nexus 7, but keep in mind that although the tablets are made by the same manufacturer, these are two different devices. The MeMo Pad comes with somewhat lower-end specs, which obviously reflects in a lower price. The tablet costs $149.99 and you can order it from third party online retailers, such as: Amazon, GameStop or B&H.

Asus Memo PadThe Asus MeMo Pad features a 7-inch LED backlit, capacitive IPS touch screen with a 1024 x 600 resolution. The display supports multi-touch up to 10 points, which means that you can use both your hands at once to operate the device. The tablet is powered by a single-core 1 GHz VIA WM8950 processor with Mali-400 graphics, which is backed by 1 GB of RAM and 16 GB of native storage. There is also an 8 GB model but currently it cannot be purchased in the US and it is unclear when or if will available at all. The built-in memory is expandable via microSD card slot, which is a notable advantage over the Nexus 7.

The MeMo Pad is equipped with a 1 megapixel front-facing camera, Wi-Fi 802.11b/g/n, and G-sensor. The tablet ships with Android 4.1 Jelly Bean and a few interesting apps pre-installed. For instance, Asus Studio allows you to use your finger to edit and tag your Picture. Thanks to Buzz Buddy, you will be able to keep all your social networks at one place. WebStorage Online Office lets you create, edit, view and share Office documents. Creative users will like My Painter and SuperNote Lite designed for painting, doodling, writing and scribbling.
