Recently we have mentioned that Archos is supposedly working on a smartphone lineup, but it will not be the only offering by the company in the weeks to come. Famous for releasing highly affordable Android tablets that offer more that decent specs and features, Archos announced a new line of “Platinum” tablets. The new series, teased at CES last month, will include three devices – the Archos 80 Platinum, Archos 97 Platinum and Archos 116 Platinum.
Archos Platinum Android Tablets – Overview
The only difference between the tablets is the screen size and price, of course. The smallest of the three, Archos 80 Platinum, features an 8-inch IPS screen with a 1024 x 768 resolution and the Archos 97 Platinum packs a stunning 2048 x 1536 resolution IPS screen comparable to the Retina display found in the iPad. Both will be available in February for $199 and $299 respectively. The Archos 116 Platinum is expected to launch in April for $349 and offers 11.6-inch IPS display with a 1920 x 1080 resolution.
Other than that, all the devices are identical in terms of specs. They come with a quad-core 1.2 GHz processor with 8-core GPU and 1080p video decoding, 2 GB of RAM and front and back cameras. Other features include HDMI ports, microSD card slots and Android 4.1 Jelly Bean out of the box. With specs like these at such affordable prices, Archos is sure to score a few more fans.
