Apple expands its recycling program and lets people trade in their Android, BlackBerry and Windows Phones toward store credit
Trade-in programs are surely one of the best ways to change your existing phone. Today, in line with all previous rumors, Apple has officially expanded its recycling program allowing customers to trade in their old Android, BlackBerry and Windows Phones. In return, they will get a special credit for a new iPhone, including the company’s recent flagships: the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus. If you want to change your phone on a new one and you’re thinking about getting yourself one of the famous iPhones, the Apple’s new deal should definitely be on you radar.
Apple Trade-in Program just got expanded
Apple first launched their iPhone recycling program in 2013. Last year their expanded the service to iPads. What means than until now the Cupertino company accepted exclusively their own old devices, so this is the first Apple’s trade-in program covering non-iPhone smartphones. The discussed program is kicking off at Apple Stores today in selected countries, including Canada, US, UK, Germany, Italy and France. In addition, the standard iPhone trade-in program that doesn’t accept other than iPhones handsets is to be introduced this week to the market of China.
So, if you live in the one of the mentioned countries you can trade in some Android, BlackBerry and Windows Phone phones, like for example: the BlackBerry Z10, Nokia Lumia 1020 and Nexus 5 among others. But remember that just as in the case of other trade-in offers, the phone you’re willing to exchange has to represent a certain value if you want to receive the discount. Since Apple haven’t specified exactly what value or condition they expect, most working smartphones in good shape launched within the past few years should qualify.
After trading in your old phone you will get a credit from Apple in the form of an Apple Store gift card or bank transfer if you prefer. Isn’t it a smart way to get rid of your old phone? While going green and getting extra money you can upgrade your old phone for a brand new iPhone 5S, iPhone 6 or iPhone 6 Plus (sadly, the program doesn’t refer to the Apple Watch), you will simultaneously contribute to decrease the growing number of landfills. Being eco-friendly is still in vogue.
It looks like Apple has made a calculated decision to cover various handsets in their phone exchange program. Not all the smartphones are eligible. This move definitely will help the mobile maker to win masses of new customers. What’s more if the program turns out to be successful, Apple promises to expand it to more countries.
