The third generation of the smallest and lightest premium sector tablets has just been announced. It’s simply dubbed iPad Mini 3 and features the TouchID fingerprint scanner. Though the newest iPad Mini 3 received several integral upgrades, it strongly resembles its predecessor, so its future users will get nothing more than a familiar looking Apple’s slate with some modest updates. The pre-orders begin tomorrow with shipping scheduled to start at the end of next week.
Apple iPad Mini 3 with Touch ID
The iPad Mini 3 sports the same body design language as its predecessor, simultaneously being the most sophisticated and premium looking tablet on the current market. What’s more the tinny slate is made of metal instead of traditional in the sub 10-inch sector tablets plastic. Additionally, the new iPad Mini will be available in a new golden color scheme.
The iPad Mini’s is also the first such small tablet to feature the TouchID. The fingerprint scanner, which is undoubtedly the biggest change in the device’s design, enables its user to easily unlock the screen, purchase iTunes and other stuff by simply pressing your finger against the home key.
Going further, the iPad Mini 3 houses a 7.9-inch Retina display sporting high resolution of 1536x2048p that translates to 324ppi. The device is powered by the Apple’s a bit old A7 processor which is most probably paired with 1GB RAM. The built-in storage is another aspect that has been improved, so we can buy the basic version with 16GB or more advanced 64GB and even 128GB models, as you’ve probably noticed there’s no 32GB option any more.
In terms of optics, the iPhone Mini 3 comes with the well-known from its previous generation, less than decent 5-megapixel main iSight camera accompanied by the additional HD FaceTime 1.2-megapixel shooter. Connectivity also remains unchanged. Sadly, due to the rather old chipset, we can’t expect the new Mini 3 to support LTE Cat.4 or Wi-Fi 802.11ac.
Moreover, the slate’s battery isn’t also a thing that the manufacturer can boast around. Apparently, the iPad Mini 3 makes it clear that Apple doesn’t put too much emphasis on the battery performance, since the one featured by the latest Mini is said to deliver only 10 hours of work, which isn’t much in times when other competing Android and Windows tablets offer a day long work and play on a single charging.
If everything goes according to the Apple’s launch plan, the iPad Mini 3 will hit retailers shelves next Friday, October 24th with pre-orders starting tomorrow.
As for the pricing, it starts from $399 which is exactly what you will have to pay for the iPad Mini 3 only Wi-Fi-enabled version, the 64GB and 128GB models cost $499 and $599 respectively. For models with cellular connectivity, you will have to pay $529 (only Wi-Fi version), $629 (64GB) or even $729 (128GB option).
Other than golden, are Silver and Space Gray color schemes. It is also worth mentioning that the slate support fourteen LTE bands, so better check the local carrier support when you want to fully use the connectivity.
