Published this Monday report claims that the iPad Air 2 is going to be the slimmest tablet currently available. The leak says that the slate will be 0,5 mm thinner than its predecessor thanks to the innovative display assembly. Which means that the upcoming iPad will be only 7 mm thin. The tablet is planned to be unveiled during upcoming Apple press event that is scheduled to take place on October 16th.
Apple iPad Air 2 to be the slimmest tablet currently available in market.
In order to achieve this slim body, Apple came with the idea to equip the new iPad with the well-known from recent iPhone generations solution, laminating the display and glass into one piece. Furthermore the report mentions that Apple commissioned the manufacturing of display to companies like TPK, GIS, Sharp, Samsung and LG.
But all these didn’t guarantee the expected thinnest of the slate, so the manufacturer had to make some more compromises, which include removing of the mute/rotation lock switch that has been present on every iPad since the OG model. The new Apple iPad Air 2 will also sport more recessed volume rockers and the microphones have been located on the tablet’s back side just next to the camera sensor. The camera shooter is the one on the right and the microphones are set on the left.
Going deeper, the speakers location has been also changed. Now they will be set in a single row grill, which will be a bit larger than the one we know from already available on the market Apple’s tablets. In terms of optics the iPad Air 2 main cam will be allegedly boosted up to the 8-megapixel rear shutter from the previous 5-megapixel one and will be accompanied by the front-facing sensor that is said to be capable of supporting 720p FaceTime video calls.
Additionally, the tablet will be powered by the Apple-made A8 chipset paired with 2GB RAM. As it comes to the built-in storage, the iPad Air 2’s future users will be able to choose between 32GB, 64GB and 128GB variants. There will be also a TouchID fingerprint home button and support for NFC connectivity to allow for access to Apple Pay on the board. There shouldn’t be any significant design changes since Apple is reported to start mass production of the device.
The iPad Air 2 won’t be the only one new device unveiled at the Apple’s special event on October 16th. The company is also rumored to present the iPad Mini 3 that is said to feature similar specs to its bigger brother. Apart from that, Apple is also said to unveil some more details on its new iMac lineup and OSX Yosemite. So, it will be definitely an interesting event, full of revelations with multiplicity of attractions.
