Rumors about Amazon phone started soon after the retailer launched its Kindle Fire tablet back in 2011. Since then we have heard a lot speculations about the phone but nothing solid so far. Discussions heated up again, when sources inside component suppliers Foxconn said they would be manufacturing the device. Amazon did not confirm that is indeed making a smartphone but when company’s CEO said “stay tuned” it means that something big is in progress and today we have another piece of news.
Amazon phone to come in the Q2 of 2013
According to an industry supply chain source, Amazon will launch its smartphone with a 4.7-inch touch screen. Originally the retailer planned to put a 4.3-inch display in the handset but apparently changed its mind due to reports about increasing demand for larger devices. Rumor has it that the company is also working on improving other specs of the phone but no more details were revealed. It is a good piece of news for potential users expecting something above than a mid-range handset.
The Amazon smartphone is expected to be available some time in the second quarter of 2013, but it appears that the company might be forced to change the launch date for later. The reason for the possible delay might be the said modifications of the specs, however, the sources wee not able to confirm this information. Other reasons for a delay might lie within the manufacturer itself, as Foxconn is apparently experiencing some production issues.
