Alcatel announces 6-inch phablet for cheap price that offers a fingerprint scanner and Android Nougat
Consumer Electronics Show is an annual event which draws internationally recognized electronics manufacturers as well as a number of smaller ones. Alcatel might not be the most popular brand in the US, but the company now owned by TCL (the manufacturer which from now on will be making BlackBerry phones) didn’t come to Las Vegas empty-handed. Earlier today, Alcatel announced a 6-inch phablet for cheap price that rocks a fingerprint scanner and Android Nougat.
Alcatel A3 XL is now official. It’s huge, cheap and comes with fingerprint sensor the latest version of Android on board.
Called Alcatel A3 XL, the device lives up to its name – indeed it is extra large, at least compared to an average smartphone launched these days. On the outside, the A3 XL looks pretty unassuming, just like any other plastic-clad phone. Although plastic is often considered passé, this material has two major advantages – it’s cheaper than metal and it’s lighter which is especially important in a phone of such size. The A3 XL is also quite thin – it measures just 7.9mm in thickness and has curved edges so it should be pretty pleasant to hold.
What makes the Alcatel A3 XL stand out in the crowd is its huge 6-inch screen which will be perfect for reading or watching video. Resolution, however, leaves a little to be desired, since it’s only 720p. The device also packs a fingerprint scanner and will ship with the latest version of Android, that it 7.0 Nougat. The rest of the specs, though, are not particularly impressive and include a MediaTek MT8735B 1.1 GHz quad-core processor, 1 GB of RAM, only 8GB of expandable storage, 8-megapixel rear and 5-megapixel front cameras, 3,000 mAh battery and LTE connectivity. However, if you feel the need to complain, keep in mind that the handset will cost about one third of what a flagship would set you back.
Alcatel phones are quite popular in Europe and Asia and that’s where the A3 XL will be headed, at least in the beginning. The device is expected to hit the market in Asia Pacific, Middle East, Africa, and Latin America in Q1 2017 and then go on sale in Europe in Q2. Pricing for each region hasn’t been revealed yet, but the A3 XL should cost approximately $200.
