Buying a new phone is lots of fun, for the most part, anyway. Just imagine opening the box, taking your shining dream phone out and then having hours of pure joy of testing and experimenting. Even buying used or refurbished devices is a very pleasant experience. However, there’s one very important step you have to take before you can start using your phone – the handset must be activated or else you won’t be able to do a thing. This is how you can active your phone on Verizon.
Before you begin using your new phone, you have to activate it. Verizon customers have three ways to do so.
Verizon allows customers to active a new phone through My Verizon page. If you are new to the service, you will have to go through a quick registration based on the main number associated with the Verizon Wireless account. If you have already registered, you just have to sign in. The next step, once on the main My Verizon page, is to click on “Activate or Switch Device.”
The first question you will be asked is whether the phone you are activating is new or an old which you used in the past and want to reactivate. Then you will have to follow the prompts on the screen. The whole process is free of any charge, and pretty fast and easy. However, you will need access to the internet.
Over the phone
If you don’t feel comfortable providing information over the internet or can’t access My Verizon page, you can activate your phone by calling the carrier. You can do so from the phone you want to activate by dialing *611 or you can use another device to call the Verizon support number. Either way, you will have to carefully listen to the menu options and follow prompts. It’s easy and relatively fast, though it may take longer than online activation. Keep in mind that you may also be charged a fee for talking to a service representative.
If you prefer to look a person in the eye when you talk to them, then this option would be the best for you. Moreover, the only thing you will have to do, is hand your phone to a salesperson and answer a few questions, and the rest will be takes care of by Verizon employee. Keep in mind, though, that this option will require quite a lot of time – you will have to go to a Verizon store and maybe wait in line for your turn. You may also be charged a fee, if you want to activate a phone purchased somewhere else.
Activating a new phone is not a very complicated process. If you are a Verizon customer can do so in three ways – by yourself online or over the phone, or you can go to a Verizon store and ask an employee to do it for you. Which method you choose depends on how much time you have and how comfortable you feel following prompts online or over the phone.
