Acer has announced a new smartphone that is targeting budget-conscious customers. Users who cannot afford to spend lots of money on high-end phablet but anyway would like to enjoy big screen and some neat features might find all they are looking for in the Acer Liquid Z5. The phone will be released in mid-January with a €169 price tag, that is about $231, primarily in Germany, Luxembourg, Belgium, France, Spain, Portugal, Ukraine, the Netherlands and the UK. At the moment it is unclear whether the Acer Liquid Z5 will be available also in the US.
Acer Liquid Z5 5-inch Android Smartphone
The Acer Liquid Z5 is the successor of the Liquid Z3 and even shares some of the specs with its smaller cousin. For example, both phones are powered by the same MediaTek MT6572 platform which is based on a dual-core 1.3 GHz Cortex-A7 processor, Mali-400 graphics and 512 MB of RAM.
The Liquid Z5, however, is notably bigger with its 5-inch FWVGA (480 x 854) display. Other features worth mentioning include a 5-megapixel rear camera, VGA front-facing camera, 4 GB of storage, 3G with HSPA+, Bluetooth 3.0, Wi-Fi N, GPS navigation, dual-SIM support and FM radio.
Hardware specs are of a typical budget offering and are unlikely to give you the “wow” effect. Software is where the phone gets a tad more interesting. For starters, the Liquid Z5 features four profile modes that adjust the experience depending on the user’s needs.
Basic Mode for kids has fixed call and text functionality. Senior Mode provides quick and easy access to such features as messages, radio, weather, etc. with magnify option. Classic mode is perfect for first-time smartphone users, while Keypad Mode is for people who primarily use voice and need their keypad often.
Another interesting feature is the Acer Float user interface that allows multiple app windows to stay open at once.
