Today is a good day for a fresh load of good news from Sony. The company is working pretty hard and keeps expanding its Xperia lineup, an Android based smartphones. Frequently we come across rumors and leaks about the new Sony ‘s flagship phone – Xperia Odin, Xperia Yuga, and yet, the manufacturer is planning to revamp its Xperia P model making it a luxury phone for rich. How? Simply by dipping the handset into gold. Sony just announced on its blog a new project: 24K GOLD Xperia P.

Truth be told, the Sony Xperia P, is not a high-end phone like the one James Bond used in Skyfall movie. The Xperia P is a a sleekly designed mid-range handset. The new element is that it was dipped in gold and thus made a luxury phone. Inside there will be the same Xperia P it used to be before it received the 24K gold treatment.
The Sony Xperia P features a 4-inch TFT Reality display with Mobile BRAVIA Engine and WhiteMagic technology, which is scratch-resistant and shatter proof and offers 960 x 540 pixel resolution and support for 16,777,216 colors. Driven by a 1 GHz U8500 dual-core processor paired with 1 GB of RAM, the handset is capable of fulfilling the needs of an average user.
One of the strong points is Xperia P’s 8 megapixel rear camera with Sony’s Exmor R for mobile CMOS sensor, 8x digital zoom, LED flash, auto focus, 3D Sweep Panorama, face and smile detection and HD video recording (1080p). As you can expect, there is also a VGA front-facing shooter.
Sony is famous for making their phones entertainment-oriented, and the Xperia P definitely fits in this category with its TrackID music recognition, xLOUD Experience, FM Radio with RDS, motion gaming, Timescape with Twitter integrated, Xperia 2.0 with Facebook, music player compatible with MP3, 3GPP, MP4, SMF, WAV, OTA, and Ogg vorbis formats and Sony Entertainment Network.
The Xperia P runs Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich with possible Jelly Bean update and comes pre-loaded with a full suite of Google app, some of which include Gmail, Google Voice Search, Google Talk with video chat, Google Calendar, Google Gallery 3D, Google Maps with Street View and Latitude.
The manufacturer did not provided yet any price or release date for the the Gold Xperia P. The smartphone may not hit stores at all. As far as we know, there were only 15 units made and they will probably be given away on Sony’s Facebook page by participating in the treasure hunt. The basic version of the Sony Xperia P available in the US from third party vendors only for $300 without contract.
