If you were thinking that Sony was going to take a break and enjoy the limelight after indisputable success of its latest flagship smartphones, the Xperia ZL and the waterproof Xperia Z, this is not going to happen. Quite opposite, according to the recent rumors, the company is planning to release as many as nine devices by the third quarter of 2013. And make no mistake, these are not going to be some cheap phones with poor specifications, but mid-range to truly high-end devices with specs and features well within or even above standards for this year.
Sony Xperia Cyber-shot and Xperia Walkman
From what we are hearing from folks at Phone Arena, Sony is going to put their efforts into implementing its Cyber-shot camera and Walkman technology in at least two if its devices. The 5-inch Xperia Cyber-shot is expected to come with high-end specs and the best camera ever used in a smartphone. It will feature Carl Zeiss optics and a sensor size comparable to the Nokia PureView 808. Unlike the PureView though, it will not alter the design aesthetics. Th second smartphone, also a high-end 5-incher, will focus on audio experience. It will feature an amplifier chip and every feature that the Walkman technology has to offer.
Other devices that Sony is allegedly working on include the Xperia A and UL, the Togari phablet and another flagship – an iPhone competitor with specs similar to the Xperia Cyber-shot. As usual in such cases, take this news with a grain of salt, since the rumors are neither confirmed by Sony, nor verified. But no doubt, if at least some of it turns out to be true, it will be an interesting summer in the smartphone world.
