Recently we have heard a lot of rumors lately about two Huawei Windows 8 devices. One of them, the Ascend W1, was announced at Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas just a few days ago, which did not surprise us at all thanks to previous numerous leaks. The other handset, however, the Ascend W2, is a whole different story. The company is hiding it pretty well, since reportedly the phone should be announced next month, and all we have so far are just a few details and even fewer photos. Not for long, we hope.
Thanks to Huawei executive Richard Yu’s announcement on Weibo we have a reason to believe that the Ascend W2 might be unveiled at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona next month. Yu confirmed two phones to be announced in Barcelona, one of them almost certainly being the Ascend P2. Although, he did not mention the W2 by name, it seems logical that that would be the mysterious second device.
If the rumors are to be believed, the Ascend W2 will be just 0.30 inches (7.7 mm) thin and will come with high-end specs for Windows 8 phone. The handset is expected to feature a 4.5-inch 720p HD ultra-sensitive touch screen that can be operated with gloves, an 8 megapixel rear camera on the back, a dual-core processor of unknown type with unspecified clock frequency, 1 GB of RAM, 16 GB of built-in storage, and a 2,800 mAh battery. The W2 will possibly cost 3,200 yuan, or approximately $515 or €386, which is decent pricing for specs that could compete with such top-shelf Windows 8 phones as the Nokia Lumia 920.
